Businesses considering the City of Rio Rancho should provide as much consumption and demand information as possible to PNM so the utility can run an accurate rate analysis. Consumption should be presented in kWh per month or year. Demand should be presented in kW or MW.
PNM has some of the lowest electric rates in the Southwest, offering an important competitive advantage to businesses that use a large amount of electricity. Since 1994, rates for PNM retail electric customers – which includes residential, commercial and industrial customers – have fallen 19 percent while average rates in the Southwest have risen 14 percent. Below are tables comparing PNM rates to the Southwest region and United States (click to enlarge).

Gas
New Mexico Gas Company(NMGCO) is the state’s current natural gas supplier. NMGCO currently buy gas on your behalf and pass the cost of gas purchases to you.
NMGCO owns and operates the intrastate transmission and distribution pipeline systems in the central, northwestern and southeastern regions of New Mexico that deliver natural gas to the homes and businesses of approximately 500,000 customers. New Mexico Gas Company also owns and operates distribution systems served by interstate pipelines throughout the central, eastern and southwestern areas of New Mexico. New Mexico Gas Company has individual distribution areas and two pipeline districts that manage daily distribution of natural gas. The New Mexico Public Regulation Commission (NMPRC) in Santa Fe regulates the transmission and distribution of natural gas by New Mexico Gas Company.
New Mexico Gas Company’s (NMGCO) natural gas service territory is wedged between two major natural gas production centers: the San Juan Basin and the Permian Basin. This proximity means that supplies of natural gas are not far away, reducing the expense of moving the gas from the production field to the ultimate customer. Users of natural gas within the service territory may buy natural gas from NMGCO – or buy it from another supplier and have NMGCO transport the gas on its behalf.
